Famicase

Over the past few years I have exhibited in the My Famicase Exhibition. The exhibition is a celebration of both graphic design and retro video games. The design prompt is to design a Famicom cartridge label for a made-up game. The exhibition is hosted by the company Meteor and has been running since 2005. Below are my Famicase game concepts and labels.

For this design, I wanted to make a label for a mech-building game. I'm a big fan of the Gundam franchise and that was my main inspiration for this label design.

I'm a huge fan of the first PlayStation and many of the racing games that came out for it. Two of my favorites are Colin Mcrae Rally 2.0 and Ridge Racer Type 4. One thing they do better than any other racing game is the UI design. The UI design inspired the design for this year's Famicase label.

For this design, I got an idea out of the blue for a game where you try to evacuate a dying earth before it explodes. I called it 'Slow' based on the concept of 'slow violence', a type of violence brought on by climate change, toxic drift, deforestation, oil spills, etc. Which is what caused the planet to get to that near exploding state in this fictional game.

For this design I had two main sources of  inspiration the Y2K design aesthetic and European soccer fashion. I’m a big soccer fan and a fan of early 2000’s culture so this was a great way to combine the two. Footy is a nickname for soccer and kits are the jerseys worn by the teams.
